Have you been endlessly chasing that magical feeling you had the first time you slipped behind the wheel with your driver's license? Adobe update for mac. After years of trying to recapture that joy and sense of freedom in vain, we think we just found it in the Porsche Cayman GT4.

The Cayman GT4 is a 414-hp distillation of the happiness that we thought driving would bring. It's quick. Equipped with the dual-clutch automatic (called'PDK' in Porsche circles; $3210)—available for the first time in the GT4—it charges to 60 in 3.3 seconds and to an 11.6-second quarter-mile at 121 mph off a shocking 6600-rpm launch-control clutch dump. The automatic is so prescient that it selects the right gear the instant you'd be reaching for the shifter in the six-speed version. A manual has a level of involvement that can't be duplicated, but when an automatic does exactly what you'd do at the exact right time, there's really not much to complain about.

The GT4's flat-six traces its lineage to the twin-turbo 3.0-liter in the latest 911s. Shorn of its turbos, the engine is bored and stroked to 4.0 liters, and the result is a rev-happy soul. Without turbos muddying things, there's a direct relationship between the accelerator and the shove into the seat. The six spins up quickly, which is good because you have to zing it to at least 5000 rpm to reach the torque peak of 309 pound-feet. Press on and the gritty intake wail at 8000 rpm reaches a lovely but loud 93 decibels. At full chat, this engine sounds even better than a police officer uttering the words,'I'm going to let you off with a warning this time.'

Waltzing the GT4 back and forth on Little Tujunga canyon road—a slalom course set over a mountain—serves as a reminder that cars can physically and metaphysically transport us. Pulses through the 14.2-inch Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel telegraph the subtle, and not so subtle, deformation and purchase of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Efforts build in response to cornering loads. Precise without any dartiness or nervousness, the steering is as good as it gets in a modern car. The'Full Bucket Seat' option costs $5900, but it basically makes you and the car one. That is, once you climb in and accept the carbon-fiber seat's fixed backrest.

Even fitted with the GT4's lower and stiffer springs and the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, the ride is remarkably civil. While you won't confuse a GT4's behavior with the supple mid-engine Corvette, the spring rates aren't too harsh for the real world and the adaptive dampers (PASM in Porsche language) take the big stings out of rough roads. Considering how well the GT4 rips down a mountain road, the ride on the highway and around town is very livable.

When pressed into Little Tujunga’s tightest corners—the ones marked with a 10-mph recommended speed—the front end sticks hard and you find yourself flirting with nearly all of the 1.07 g's of grip we measured on the skidpad. The $8000 carbon-ceramic brakes take all the heat you can throw at them and, with the help of the Cup 2s, will stop the GT4 from 70 in a very short 146 feet; reeling in 100 mph takes 288 feet. A 911 is capable of similar feats, but it continues to creep toward becoming a larger and more touring-natured car. Compared to a 911 or even a Corvette, the Cayman GT4 won't be quite as nice to commute in and will be a little loud on a long road trip—76 decibels at 70 mph will have you reaching for ear plugs on a road trip—but the GT4's tradeoff is fine with us. We'll take a little rawness for the joy of driving this small two-seater.

Porsche© Jessica Lynn Walker - Car and Driver Even when equipped with Porsche's PDK dual-clutch automatic, the Cayman GT4 captures the joys of driving like almost no other car can.

Anxious thoughts of adulthood are replaced by the meditative involvement of unwinding a great road in a great car. The GT4 stays flat, the automatic picks the right gears, and the corners surrender in a blur of speed and g-forces. Like that first solo outing at 16, there's an energizing and freeing realization that driving is entirely dictated by you.
